Hudson Highlands Pipe Band

2015—Celebrating our 10th Year!

In the Beginning

An organizational meeting was held July 6th, 2005, prompted by the desire of local resident and uilleann pipe maker, Seth Gallagher, to field a band for the local Memorial Day parades. With the blessing and support of the Cold Spring Fire Company and a mix of enthusiastic players, the Cold Spring Fire Co. Pipes & Drums was born.

In March 2011 the band and the Cold Spring Fire Company mutually decided to part ways, with the band becoming its own entity. The Cold Spring Fire Co. Pipes & Drums officially became the Hudson Highlands Pipe Band on March 14, 2011.

We're Going Places

The Hudson Highlands Pipe Band is a sought after band for local parades. We perform in most of the area St. Patrick's Day parades, and at firemen's parades, private parties and community events throughout the year. In 2008 we were invited to play in the NYC St. Patrick's Day parade and performed that evening at Carnegie Hall with The Chieftains. We have since played with them at Towne Hall (NYC) in 2010, NJ Performing Arts Center (Newark, NJ) 2010 and again at Carnegie Hall for their 50th Anniversary Concert on March 17, 2012. On March 8, 2014, we are again honored to share the stage with The Chieftains at Town Hall (NYC).

We compete in the Grade 5 level at several EUSPBA competitions each year, including the Rockland County Feis, the International Celtic Festival at Hunter Mountain, and the Capital District Scottish Games at the Altamont Fairgrounds. In 2011, the band placed 3rd overall in Grade 5 at Hunter Mountain, with the pipers placing 1st.

Join Us

There is no experience necessary, and we always welcome new players. Instruction is given for both bagpipes and drums on Monday evenings from 6-7 pm. Our regular practices are held Mondays from 7-9 pm.

Bagpipes are taught first on a practice chanter, so you do not need a set of bagpipes initially. Depending on your progress and ability, you can expect to get on a set of pipes sometime within a year.

Drummers will need sticks and a practice pad to begin.

Practices are held at:

Our Lady of Loretto Church (School Building), 24 Fair Street, Cold Spring, NY 10516
